Crevasse by Tuntalm Crevasse by Tuntalm
From a pong with Mythiril ! :D
He came up with an epic texture, so tweaking it was sheer fun :3

Here is his version of the piece !

This is so cool! I love seeing the differences in how you've both used the texture too :D

Aaah thank you :D Yes we ended up going for different vibes. His work is a lot more soothing and mysterious, imo. Mine is quite... 'aggressive' ? :P

What differences do you see ?

They both seem to have very different moods to them. Both look like gemstone or mineral formations, but his seems more realistic whereas yours is more stylised :)

Thank you for the nice words

I'd agree with that ! But his work holds more depth imo :P mine pops out more. Hehe, the joys of collabs :3

Those colors are fantastically iridescent and yet house a lot of mystery in the depth of the darker sections.  The coloring is really well-balanced!

Aaah thank you very much  I'm glad you like it !

I liked the huge contrast too. I wasn't quite sure if the white parts were too bright or not, but reducing the brightness was altering the impact. So i left it like that. Glad to hear it's not an issue :3

Do you see anything specific ? or is it just a mysterious texture ? :D

I view this as a textural piece given the focus on the texture itself.

Hmm interesting. So too much of a powerful texture can "erase" the interpretations/make them more simple. I need to remember that. :D
thank you for the input

If there are too many ways I can interpret something or nothing inherently sticks out, I'm comfortable enough internalizing what I do see. Texture certainly can be the focus of a piece of artwork, but too much of it generally makes isolating any subject/object/depth relationships of a scene harder.

Oooooh, that makes sense :O

So it's not the texture but rather the lack of "obvious" subject that makes the interpretation fade away. Something to explore, right here :eyes:

Thanks for pointing that out !

Exactly.  Fractals can make really cool textures, but if your goal is to build characters or scenes rather than just textures, it's important to force the structure into a shape that one's eye can do pattern recognition on.  This can be accomplished by having structure fill the fractal in an interesting way, or by forcing texture to disappear through gamma, colors, or blurring. When you say some of my preview artwork has too much blurring, that's because the blurring is used to reduce the total level of texture and try to focus more on the important shapes themselves.

Sorry for the late reply, family at home and it's a hassle to take time to comment and stuff :faint:
(yes, i'm totally making excuses >.>)

Ooooh, so that's why you blur most of your pieces... hmmm, okay. I try to create that with final transforms, but they mostly bend the textures into new textures, not into figures. I'll have to practice that :D
thank you for the tip !

I think textures are interesting to explore, but yeah, i'd like to work with defined shapes as well. :P I'll try to modify gamma and colors too, but i'm less familiar with them so may take some time before i know how to use them haha.

Thank you again :D

Adoring this!!

Looks like the perspective of someone falling through some sort of crystalline dimension, or maybe just fainting from the sheer beauty of all the pretty rocks :0

Please keep up making stuff like this!! It's so much fun to think of worlds that these places could exist in :^D
